Abstract: Sunday Scaries, a company that specializes in ‘stress-melting CBD and THC products’ recently launched what it described as the ultimate knockout formula for restless nights: THC Gummies for Sleep. They can be used to combat the so-called Sunday scaries in which many folks have acute difficulties falling asleep on Sunday nights or any night for that matter. Available online for $31 a bottle, each gummy “delivers a precise microdose of 2.5mg Delta-9 THC.”

We have all endured them – dreaded sleepless nights where your brain is in overdrive even though the body clearly needs rest, and you just can’t doze off. You might be fretting about the next day’s meeting at work or that argument you had earlier with an annoying relative and try as you can to sleep, the twist and turns roll on and guess what? Chances are it is a Sunday night.

The SleepFoundation.org, a website dedicated to empowering individuals to achieve better sleep, reported three years ago that “while  it can be tough to get sleep any day of the week, many of us have extra difficulty on Sunday nights — so much so that these troubles have a name: the ‘Sunday scaries.’

“Also known as the Sunday blues, these feelings of dread and anxiety may be quite common,” it states. “According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), 79.5 per cent of U.S. adults say they have experienced trouble falling asleep on Sundays compared to other days of the week.”

Fast forward three years almost to the day and a San Diego, Calif.-based company, aptly named Sunday Scaries, announced in March a new product called THC Gummies for Sleep which they described in a release as the “ultimate knockout formula for restless nights” no matter what day it is.

Company co-founder and CEO Mike Sill says the gummies are not “your prescription pills with side effects longer than a CVS receipt. And these aren’t like your over-the-counter sleepy time teas which do absolutely nothing to help. This new product has been rigorously tested and proven effective, so you can rest assured you won’t wake up feeling groggy or foggy like you have cotton balls stuffed in your head.

“We custom formulated this with science and intention, stacking cannabinoids with calming compounds that don’t just help you fall asleep, but keep you there. You’ll also wake up energized and ready to rock.”

In terms of technical details, a release from Sunday Scaries states that each gummy “delivers a precise microdose of 2.5mg Delta-9 THC working with CBD (cannabidiol), CBC (cannabichromene) and CBN (cannabinol) to promote deep, sustained sleep. Available in a blackberry peach flavour, the all-natural gummies  can be ordered online and as they are Farm Bill compliant, the company notes, are “able to be shipped right to your front doorstep.”

Retailing for $31 a bottle, they are, says the firm, also pesticide free, gluten free, dairy free, soy free and vegetarian friendly.

An FAQ from the company points out that the best amount of THC for sleep is 2.5 mg, “as this low dose helps promote relaxation, reduce stress and ease discomfort without causing next day grogginess or unwanted side effects. 2.5 mg is also considered a microdose which means you won’t be going to bed extremely ‘high’.

“THC sleep gummies usually take 30 minutes to kick in, although the onset may take up to two hours depending on factors such as your body weight, metabolism and how much food you have in your stomach.

“Yes, THC sleep gummies are generally regarded as safe, and you are able to consume them on a nightly basis. That being said, some individuals may develop a tolerance over time and will need to increase their dosage if this becomes the case.”
