Preface: This article is a composite of a real conversation I had with my teenage daughter. It was an eye-opener when she pointed out that it was time to rethink my fashion choices and style in middle age. It also made me laugh—because she was absolutely right. Apologies to Lululemon—I still love your clothes. Enjoy this article, and stay tuned for the launch of our marketplace and reviews section in Spring 2025!
Dad, It’s Time to Break Up with Lululemon
It started as a normal Saturday morning. You were enjoying your coffee, reading the news on your phone, blissfully unaware that an intervention was brewing in your own home. Your teenage daughter walked in, took one look at you, and sighed the deep, disappointed sigh of someone who just realized their dad has given up.
“Dad… we need to talk.”
You glanced up, confused. Was this about curfew? Her grades? Had she found out you ate the last of her fancy oat milk ice cream?
No. It was worse.
“You have to stop dressing like an off-duty yoga instructor.”
Taking Stock and Finding Your Style
You looked down at your outfit—your trusty Lululemon joggers, a moisture-wicking quarter-zip, and your favorite all-white sneakers (which, let’s be honest, weren’t all that white anymore). Comfortable? Yes. Stylish? You had thought so. But judging by her dramatic eye-roll, the jury had reached a very different verdict.
“Dad, you always look like you’re about to lead a mindfulness seminar. Can you wear something… I don’t know… a little more manly?”
Ouch. You sputtered something about “modern fashion” and “technical fabrics,” but she wasn’t buying it. She grabbed her phone, pulled up a picture of some ruggedly handsome older gentleman in a tailored jacket, dark denim, and leather boots, and held it up like an attorney presenting Exhibit A.
“See? This guy looks cool. He looks like he builds things. Like he could chop wood. Or fix a car. You? You look like you just finished stretching in a heated room.”
She had a point. Somewhere along the way, your wardrobe had slowly been taken over by stretchy, elastic-waist everything. What started as a few “comfortable” pieces had turned into a lifestyle. It was time for a change.

Have you adopted a style of comfort but find yourself in sweats and a hoodie for your day to day fashion statement?
RestlessUrban Fashion Guide and Reviews Launching This Spring
But here’s the good news: You don’t have to sacrifice comfort to look put-together. The 2025 fashion trends for men over 50 are all about style with ease—a way to look effortlessly cool without giving up the practicality you love. So, before your daughter stages a full-blown closet purge, let’s talk about some simple upgrades that will have you looking less yoga coach, more leading man.
How will we do this?
RestlessUrban will be launching its marketplace in the spring. The marketplace will be fueled by expert reviews, trends review and curious explorations and interviews with a diverse group of thought leaders, trend setters and brands that want to connect with you. Let’s face it. There is not a one size fits all answer for fashion but it doesn’t hurt to explore and be inspired. After all, we don’t want to be faced with a “fashion intervention” and isn’t this the time to shine at middle age and show off how fabulous you are?

Finding your style and curiously exploring a look that feels right for you.
